OWASP LASCON returns to Austin, Texas, on October 23 – 24, 2025. With more than 800 security professionals and developers in attendance, the event provides practical insights into ASPM, DevSecOps, secure development, and large-scale vulnerability management.
Phoenix Security is reshaping Application Security Posture Management (ASPM) with a smarter, risk-based approach to fixing issues. At OWASP LASCON, we’ll demonstrate how teams can move beyond traditional scanning tools and adopt context-driven strategies to mitigate risk – without compromising delivery speed.
Visit the Phoenix Security booth at OWASP LASCON to claim your prize – and enter to win one of the original Phoenix Security orange Lightsabers.
Plus, don’t miss Francesco and Nate’s talk on evolving your vulnerability management program using real-world context.
Modern development has changed the game. From monoliths to microservices, from on-prem setups to cloud-native pipelines. That shift brings complexity. Vulnerability management is now a noisy, tangled mess of alerts and tools. This high-impact session brings together two seasoned practitioners, Francesco Cipollone (Phoenix Security) and Nate Sanders (Bazaarvoice), to unpack what it really takes to manage vulnerabilities at scale in 2025.
Forget theory. You’ll hear practical insights from the field. What’s effective, what isn’t, and what to focus on next. Expect real-world stories, sharp insights, and a clear roadmap to managing risk in dynamic environments that span code, containers, and cloud.
• Break the chaos cycle by combining scattered data across tools and teams into one view of risk.
• Use automation and repeatable workflows to fix more vulnerabilities -faster.
• Focus on what matters most. Reachability analysis shows which flaws are exploitable, so teams don’t waste time.
• Strategies to overcome the inconsistency of vulnerability data across pipelines.
• Best practices for risk-based prioritization in containerized and serverless environments.
• How to use reachability analysis to focus on the 5% of vulnerabilities that truly matter.
• Practitioner-level stories on integrating code, cloud, and traditional infrastructure into a unified remediation workflow.
This session is tailored for CISOs, security architects, vulnerability managers, AppSec engineers, and DevSecOps leaders who are:
• Scaling security in fast-paced, cloud-native environments.
• Tired of vulnerability noise and looking for signal.
• Seeking to operationalize risk – not just identify it.
• Looking for tangible tactics and proven frameworks from industry leaders.
Francesco brings decades of experience from HSBC, AWS, and Phoenix Security – shaping how risk is managed from code to runtime.
Nate blends vulnerability testing, management, and mental health advocacy. His talks offer sharp, practical perspective on scaling security with intention.
• Keynotes from AppSec leaders.
• Hands-on workshops (Oct 21-22) on secure coding, threat modeling, and fast fixes on secure coding, threat modeling, and remediation best practices.
• Capture The Flag (CTF): real-world hacking challenges.
• Meet the Mentor: direct advice from seasoned security pros.
• From Detection to Remediation: Fixing Security Debt at Scale – Practical solutions for security teams struggling with high vulnerability volumes.
• Threat Prioritization in Modern AppSec Programs – Strategies for moving beyond CVSS scores to real risk impact assessment.
• Integrating AI into Vulnerability Management – How machine learning accelerates security decision-making.
🗓️ Dates: October 23-24, 2025.
📍Location: Norris Conference Centers, Austin, Texas.
🙋♂️ Who Should Attend? Security Engineers, CISOs, DevOps Teams, Developers, Application Security Professionals.

Derek Fisher – Head of product security at a global fintech. Speaker, instructor, and author in application security.
Derek is an award winning author of a children’s book series in cybersecurity as well as the author of “The Application Security Handbook.” He is a university instructor at Temple University where he teaches software development security to undergraduate and graduate students. He is a speaker on topics in the cybersecurity space and has led teams, large and small, at organizations in the healthcare and financial industries. He has built and matured information security teams as well as implemented organizational information security strategies to reduce the organizations risk.
Derek got his start in the hardware engineering space where he learned about designing circuits and building assemblies for commercial and military applications. He later pursued a computer science degree in order to advance a career in software development. This is where Derek was introduced to cybersecurity and soon caught the bug. He found a mentor to help him grow in cybersecurity and then pursued a graduate degree in the subject.
Since then Derek has worked in the product security space as an architect and leader. He has led teams to deliver more secure software in organizations from multiple industries. His focus has been to raise the security awareness of the engineering organization while maintaining a practice of secure code development, delivery, and operations.
